Crummles English Enamels

Crummles English Enamels has an international reputation for fine hand crafted enamel boxes and gifts and has been instrumental in the revival of enamel collecting. The way our boxes are made today differs little from their 18th century counterparts. With a range of prices there is a beautiful gift to suit every taste and budget.

English Enamels

In 1974, Crummles English Enamels, based in Poole, England, began production. After 25 years in Poole, Crummles moved to Staffordshire, the heart of English enamelling to take advantage of Staffordshire's tradition of unequalled quality in the production of enamel boxes, paperknives, pill boxes and other beautiful enamel gifts. Crummles take their designs and shapes either from an old box or from classical shapes of the eighteenth century. With 30 years in the industry, Crummles now have several thousand designs, with subjects varying from traditional floral, to animal studies, tributes to Old Masters, and modern interpretations of keepsakes from the past.

Enamel Boxes

Small boxes were very popular in Georgian times. In fashionable 18th century society they were given as love tokens, pill boxes, snuff boxes and souvenirs which touched almost every aspect of Georgian life. Each box was carefully decorated by means of transfer prints and painted to produce a charming, simple gift with very long lasting attributes ensuring the survival of some treasured heirlooms to this day.

Quality Enamels

Every one of Crummles fine boxes is 100% hand crafted in Staffordshire here at the factory where every raw material is sourced in England and every operation is under Crummles' direct control. Every base, lid and bezel is individual tailored to each box to ensure each is a distinctive piece of art. Before the enamel box is placed in its distinctive royal blue and gold presentation case it is subject to a final rigorous inspection to ensure Crummles envied quality tradition is maintained.

The team of esteemed artists at Crummles are justifiably proud of the part they have played in reviving this unique and highly-skilled industry. With a heritage of over 250 years of Staffordshire tradition here at the factory in Longton, Crummles enamels will forever be a little piece of history in the making.
